Description:
Walala Tjapaltjarri was born in the Gibson Desert
in the early 1960's. He was a member of a small group of Pintupi whose
arrival in Kiwirkurra in 1984 made international headlines.
Until this point, Walala and his group had never encountered
Europeans and their ways. The group had been following their traditional
lifestyle in the country west of Lake Mackay, until forced out of the desert
by severe drought.
This Tingari Cycle (a series of sacred and
secret mythological song cycles) painting is associated with the artist's
Dreaming sites, located throughout the vast sandhill country of W.A.'s
Gibson Desert. |
